Our Christmas Celebration

posted 7 Feb 2012, 14:24 by Mount Pleasant Church
We have again enjoyed a very hectic and blessed Christmas period. It began with the setting of the Chrismond Tree for Advent; followed by the Sunday School’s Advent Coffee Evening We enjoyed our Community Carol Service with the Fellowship at West End, which raised £250 for the work at 'Ty Hafan' Hospice. Our efforts have been greatly appreciated by the Hospice, who sent two representatives to the Carol Service. We hope that they will visit us again shortly to share in their work, which affects so many families in our community. Our thanks are extended to Briery Hill and Willowtown Schools Choir, the Ebbw Vale Ladies’ Choir, the Cwm Council of Churches Choir and David Parry for participating at the Service.
Next was our Sunday School Nativity, "God's Messengers", with children, parents and teachers taking part. The highlight was our Pastor, dressed as the Angel Gabriel, making a grand entrance through the vestry door, his wingspan being too great to allow him through. The Nativity retold the Christmas Story in a wonderful way, and appreciate all the hard work that was put into it, and Sue Parker was certainly inspired in writing the script! We had hoped to have an extravaganza of Christmas music in the evening, all planned by June Chamberlain. Unfortunately June fell and broke her arm just a few days before it was due to take place, and so it was postponed to next Christmas. However it was replaced with a service of Lessons and Carols, and thanks go to all those who helped out at short notice, and we hope that June will soon be feeling much better and out of her pain and discomfort.
On the Wednesday before Christmas the Fellowship Meeting was given over to singing carols to members and friends in the vicinity of the Church, followed by refreshing coffee, mince pies, etc. Christmas Eve saw our annual Crib Service, and we are grateful to Pauline Garrett coming up with another new slant on the Christmas message. This service has grown since it was first held in 2003, and numbers continue to increase. Thank you all for giving up time during a hectic day. Our Pastor led our Christmas morning meditation and Communion Service, and also our service of “Giving Thanks” and Rededication on New Year’s Day. This has also become a regular feature of our Christmas celebrations, and is the perfect way to start the New Year.
We have enjoyed a year of great blessing, and trust God to continue to lead and bless us in 2012.
When Gabriel got stuck in the doorway,
You couldn’t see him for his wings,
Flapping them here, flapping them there
His halo slipping everywhere
When Gabriel got stuck in the doorway,
You couldn’t see him for his wings.
When Gabriel got stuck in the doorway,
His smile just filled us with joy,
Where else would you find such a Pastor
As our beloved John Boy.
